Thanks so much for your comment. I always appreciate insightful comments. To get right into it, indeed, the "country" Netherlands Antilles ceases to exist on 10-10-10. At least that's the idea. Any major changes within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, need approval of all three partners: Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. Other than that Aruba's role is minor indeed.

In terms of the dollarization for the islands of the Netherlands Antilles, experts are still debating what to do next. The final decision hasn't been made yet. A few weeks ago I heard a lecture given by the President of the Central Bank of The Netherlands Antilles and he was in favor of the status quo. I personally believe that the islands are going to maintain their currency (Netherlands Guilders) in some shape or form and won't choose the dollar as their currency.

As long as the legal status of Aruba remains unchanged I don't see the adoption of the dollar as only legal currency any time soon. This is not even a topic of discussion among the people or politicians.

Thank you for your comment.

Just one year after I gave some comments on the situation in Germany. Today, I would like to draw the attention on a different issue.

You have explained the habit of accepting U.S. dollars on Aruba and how this is handled in practice.

As I have learned from the media, several of your neighboring islands in the Antilles are going to change their political status in the nearer future. Some of these islands have also decided to skip their currency in favor of the U.S. dollar (Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba). Other islands (Curacao and St. Maarten) are expected to do the same.

I understood that Aruba is not involved in this affair at all. But I wonder if you are going to follow the way to full dollarization.

I can imagine that your direct neighbors are just seeking for an advantage in their tourism industry. Given the fact that the U.S. seems to be your major source market in tourism, a dollarization could be useful.

What do the Aruba citizens feel on this?

Best wishes from Bonn,
Franco

P.S. We currently have to pay about €1.379 for a liter of unleaded super gasoline, that is USD 7.52 a gallon. Diesel is somewhat cheaper (€1.189/L or USD 6.48/gall.)

Gasoline is a refined blend of several hundred of these compounds,
formulated to perform in extremes of hot and cold and at widely varied altitudes,
not burn too fast or too slowly, burn as cleanly as possible,
and remain stable during transportation and storage.

I appreciate your comment. Thank you for visiting the site. About question, I believe the big drops in gasoline prices in Aruba are over. For the next price change I predict minor changes. It can go up or down only with a few cents.

Hello again.
This site is just great. Very nice job. I believe it must become common for the people in Aruba to inform themselves. I am doing my part by letting the people I know be aware of it!

Keeping track of the late low fluctuation in oil prices I have this question.
What do you predict next week prices will be? Will there be another (slight) reduce or an increase?
Thanks in advance.
