Gasoline this year: 36% hike

Topic: Energy

The unrelentlessness hike of gasoline prices continues on the island. Since the start of this year gasoline prices in Aruba rose with 36%. Month to month hike is at 5.6%.

The fluctuation of gasoline prices in Aruba continue to be a major problem, that doesn’t seem to be addressed sufficiently. The simple island logic “we are small” and “we don’t control the prices” always prevails in these discussions.

Recently an official of the local gasoline dealers association claimed that the only component of the gasoline price which is adjustable are the taxes. Isn’t that comment too easy? I believe so. Think outside the box.

There are many possibilities to adjust other components of the gasoline prices. Start with the wholesale price, shipment, storage and insurance to mention a few. Also partnering with other countries is an option. And no, I’m not talking about our neighbors to the south.
